Fascinating Fact
Due to the fact that American Samoa consists solely of tiny islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, the territory is not home to many species of indigenous animal life. In fact there are only three: The Polynesian Rat, the Fruit Bat, and the Samoan Feral Pig. Native birds are also scarce. While over thirty varieties of birds are often seen in Samoa, there is only one species which is native to the islands; the Tooth-Billed Pigeon, which, as the name suggests is a pigeon with teeth. These birds are not found anywhere else on Earth.
Flag Of American Samoa
American Samoa adopted its flag in 1960. The flag features the colors of Samoa which are the same as the colors of the United States: red, white, and blue. The American bald eagle is an American symbol which also holds traditional Samoan value, as does the staff and war club.
